Arkansas Reporting Specifics

Arkansas employs a mixed schedule for dormancy periods. While standard banking accounts and matured life insurance policies generally follow a 3-year dormancy rule, investment properties such as securities and contents of safe deposit boxes are not reportable until 5 years of inactivity have passed.

Holders must be particularly attentive to accelerated timelines for certain obligations. Wages, utility deposits, and funds held by state courts or agencies become reportable after just 1 year. A unique exception exists for utility amounts under $50, which may be held for 3 years before reporting.

Regarding gift certificates, Arkansas specifically exempts retail gift certificates from reporting requirements. For other reportable properties, the state allows an aggregate limit of under $50, permitting holders to group smaller sums without detailed owner information.
