Colorado Reporting Specifics

Colorado generally enforces a 5-year dormancy period for standard banking properties, including savings accounts, checking accounts, and certificates of deposit, as well as safe deposit box contents. This 5-year standard also applies to gift certificates, which are explicitly covered under Colorado's Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act.

However, holders must be aware of distinct timelines for other asset classes. Securities, dividends, and debt obligations follow a shorter 3-year dormancy period. Even more accelerated is the reporting timeline for wages, utility refunds, and property resulting from business dissolution, which become reportable after just 1 year.

For reporting purposes, Colorado sets a low aggregate limit of $25. Items valued under this amount may be grouped as a lump sum, whereas properties valued at $25 or more require detailed owner information to facilitate reunification.
