Florida Reporting Specifics

Florida generally adheres to a 5-year dormancy period for standard banking properties, such as savings and checking accounts, as well as cashier's checks. However, holders must be aware of significant deviations for other property types.

Notably, securities and equity interests have a shorter dormancy period of 3 years. Even more accelerated are the timelines for wages and utility deposits, which become reportable after just 1 year. Property resulting from business dissolution must be reported after only 6 months. Life insurance proceeds also follow a distinct 2-year dormancy rule.

Florida enforces a uniquely low aggregate limit of $10. This means most properties must be reported with detailed owner information. Additionally, unlike many states with fall deadlines, Florida's reporting deadline for all property types is May 1.
