Idaho Reporting Specifics

Idaho generally enforces a 5-year dormancy period for most banking and investment properties, including savings accounts, checking accounts, certificates of deposit, and securities. This 5-year standard also applies to safe deposit box contents and utility refunds.

However, holders must be attentive to accelerated timelines for certain asset classes. Wages, utility deposits, and funds held by state courts or agencies become reportable after just 1 year. Conversely, IRA and Keogh accounts have a 3-year dormancy period, while money orders are reportable after 7 years.

Unlike many states, Idaho does not specify a standard aggregate limit provision in its summary guidelines. Holders are encouraged to provide detailed owner information for all properties whenever possible to facilitate reunification.
