Kentucky Reporting Specifics
Kentucky generally enforces a 3-year dormancy period for the vast majority of property types, including savings accounts, checking accounts, certificates of deposit, securities, and life insurance proceeds. This 3-year standard also applies to wages, though wages of $50 or less are specifically exempt from reporting.
Holders should note specific deviations for longer-term assets. Contents of safe deposit boxes and funds held by state or federal courts have a dormancy period of 5 years. Travelers checks are reportable after 7 years, which is significantly shorter than the 15-year period found in many other jurisdictions.
Kentucky allows for an aggregate limit of $50. Items valued under this amount may be grouped together and reported as a lump sum without detailed owner information. Additionally, mineral proceeds are explicitly exempt from reporting requirements.
