Maryland Reporting Specifics
Maryland generally enforces a 3-year dormancy period for the vast majority of property types, including savings accounts, checking accounts, securities, and wages. This 3-year standard is consistent across most asset classes in the state.
However, holders must be aware of the extremely short dormancy period for property resulting from business dissolution or liquidation, which becomes reportable after just 60 days. Conversely, travelers checks have a 15-year dormancy period.
Maryland specifically exempts gift certificates and vendor-to-vendor payments from reporting. For reportable properties, the state allows a relatively high aggregate limit of $100, permitting holders to group items valued under this amount without detailed owner information.
