Missouri Reporting Specifics

Missouri generally enforces a 5-year dormancy period for the majority of property types, including savings accounts, checking accounts, certificates of deposit, and securities. This 5-year standard is widely applicable across most asset classes in the state.

However, holders must be attentive to specific exceptions. Wages and funds held by courts or government agencies typically have a 3-year dormancy period, while property resulting from business dissolution becomes reportable after 2 years. Travelers checks have a significantly longer period of 15 years.

A unique provision applies to gift certificates: they are reportable after 5 years, but holders are only required to remit 60% of the face value. For general reporting, Missouri allows an aggregate limit of $50, permitting holders to group items valued under this amount without detailed owner information.
