Oklahoma Reporting Specifics
Oklahoma generally enforces a 5-year dormancy period for many property types, including savings accounts, checking accounts, certificates of deposit, and mineral proceeds. This 5-year standard also applies to safe deposit box contents and most credit memos.
However, holders must be attentive to distinct timelines for other asset classes. Securities and dividends have a shorter dormancy period of 3 years. Even more accelerated is the reporting timeline for wages, utility deposits, and property resulting from business dissolution, which become reportable after just 1 year.
Conversely, some properties have longer dormancy periods. Money orders and funds held by fiduciaries are reportable after 7 years, while travelers checks have a 15-year period. Oklahoma allows for an aggregate limit of $50, permitting holders to group items valued under this amount without detailed owner information.
