Pennsylvania Reporting Specifics

Pennsylvania generally enforces a 3-year dormancy period for most property types, including savings accounts, checking accounts, certificates of deposit, and securities. This 3-year standard also applies to safe deposit box contents and most insurance proceeds.

However, holders must be attentive to specific exceptions. Wages and property resulting from business dissolution become reportable after 2 years. Money orders have a longer dormancy period of 7 years, while travelers checks are reportable after 15 years.

Pennsylvania allows for an aggregate limit of $50. Items valued under this amount may be grouped together and reported as a lump sum without detailed owner information. Notably, the reporting deadline for all holders is April 15, which differs from the fall deadline common in many other states.
