Utah Reporting Specifics

Utah generally enforces a 3-year dormancy period for standard banking and investment properties, including savings accounts, checking accounts, certificates of deposit, and securities. This 3-year standard is widely applicable across most asset classes in the state.

However, holders must be attentive to accelerated timelines for specific obligations. Wages, utility deposits, and property resulting from business dissolution become reportable after just 1 year. Conversely, contents of safe deposit boxes, gift certificates, and credit memos have a longer dormancy period of 5 years.

Utah allows for an aggregate limit of $50. Items valued under this amount may be grouped together and reported as a lump sum without detailed owner information, simplifying the reporting process for smaller obligations.
